Note to Engineers & Quick Tips

Thank you for your interest in BMP, Inc.’s Snout® stormwater quality system. With more than 40,000 Snouts in service around the world, you are in good company with the many designers who appreciate this simple cost effective system for water quality improvement. We recommend that you review our Quality Control and Warranty (pdf) and Maintenance Guide (pdf) for the Snout. BMP's products are proudly Made in the USA which employs American workers and is a benefit for any project funded with stimulus dollars!

To get you started, here are some quick tips:
  • The correct Snout size will always be larger than the pipe size it covers as the Snout must cover the pipe OD (e.g. use an 18" Snout for 12" pipe).
  • All structures that are designed to include Snouts must have deep sumps. The typical recommendation is at least 2.5 times the pipe ID (e.g. for a 24" pipe a 5' minimum sump is recommended).
  • F series Snouts are for boxes (Flat Back) and R series are for manholes (Round back). For the R series Snouts
  • For R series Snouts, consult the Snout Relative Sizes (pdf) file to make sure the structure is of the correct diameter to fit the Snout needed to cover the pipe specified.
  • Consult the Snout Flow Comparision (pdf) file which shows the relative inlet area of the Snout vs. the pipe inlet area.
  • For applications where oil removal is critical or bacteria reduction is desirable, specify the Bio-Skirt® as well.
